My First Blog Post!
Hello!
My name is Kimberley, I have just turned 29 and I am done procrastinating in making my dreams coming true. And my dream you may wonder? To be an illustrator. For the longest time I’ve not have enough belief in me to think I could really make it happen, I would take every knock as a sign I couldn’t do it…but now I’ve never believed in myself more. A rejection in the past would have been the end of the world and whilst receiving one recently wasn’t fun, it has given me even more drive to create more art and grow as much as I can.
Believe it or not, unlike a lot of others out there, making art isn’t something I wanted to do from the start. I wanted to be a dolphin trainer back when I still believed in the Easter Bunny and it wasn’t until secondary school I started finding an interest in creative things. I thought about being a fashion designer or an architect but it turns out I was terrible at textiles class and architecture requires more maths than I was prepared to do. At some point along the way, I discovered the concept of set design from a behind the scenes book about Harry Potter. This spiralled from being so excited about set design to prop design, designing graphics and then animation. From here, I went to University studying animation.
I did graduate with an honours degree, however I found that my passion and excitement laid with the designing process where I would design fun characters and think of stories, and here I am all these years later still deeply in love with illustrating whimsical scenes and see where these fun tales take me!
I am very fortunate to have found myself in a position to leave my normal office 8-6 4 day a week job to pursue the thing I love the most - drawing! And I am very excited to share every step of the way with you. Be it just little updates, an office tour at some point, sharing a fun hand-painting or sketchbook doodle, and maybe one day some very good news about working on professional projects! And as time goes on, I might even have a few words of wisdom and tips I’ve picked up along the way.
I am so excited to everything to come and I am grateful for anyone who wishes to join me on this journey.
Have a great day everyone!
